Connect through Small GroupsSmall groups are the core of Crossroads Church's ministry. It is the means through which we fulfill the purposes of the church.

Here's the definition of a (courtesy of Joel Comiskey): A small group is "a group of 4-15 people that meets weekly outside the church building for the purpose of evangelism and discipleship with the goal of multiplication." That means that if you are part of a small group, you will have the chance to grow closer to Christ, develop strong relationships with a few other believers, and learn how to reach out to others who aren't yet following Christ.

Sometimes small groups are called "cell" groups. The word "cell" is a biological term. The human body is composed of millions of cells, each of which contains the DNA of the body and multiplies itself many times. Similarly, the cell group is the basic unit of life in the body of Christ. The "DNA" of the church is contained in the cell group. That is, the purposes of the church are carried out in the cell.

Crossroads small groups meet at various days, times, and places around our region, usually in homes, restaurants, or offices. Typical meetings last an hour and a half, and include:

  • A time to connect with each other (Ice Breaker)
  • Vision Moments: to discuss group plans and purpose
  • Applying the Scriptures: discussing how to apply the Bible.
  • Praying Together: praying for one another's needs.

You can learn more about our small group-based approach to ministry by reading the book The Church in Many Houses (Abingdon, 2005), which was written by Crossroads’ senior pastor Steve Cordle.
